Educational Systemics' very own Michael Jay was interviewed by LessonPlanet while at ISTE 2014 in Atlanta. He discusses the importance of developing learner autonomy in preparing young people for a future beyond formal learning. Watch the interview!
In order for students to take responsibility for their education, Michael believes teachers must support the process and, “let them [students] own their learning.” He encourages educators to “find ways to integrate their [students’] interests with concepts they need to learn.” The end goal is to change the reason they’re learning fundamentally because, “when children finish high school, they shouldn’t be looking for ‘OK who is going to tell me what to do next?’”
